Acoustic insulation in Melbourne
Acoustic batts are denser than standard thermal batts and soak up sound inside walls, ceilings and floors. We install them in homes and workplaces across Melbourne to cut noise between rooms and from outside.
Where acoustic insulation helps most
Walls between bedrooms and living areas, around bathrooms and laundries, home offices and media rooms, and between the floors of two-storey homes and townhouses. It also helps in ceilings under noisy roofs, like metal roofing in heavy rain.
What it can and can't do
Acoustic batts reduce sound travelling through a wall or floor cavity. They work best as part of the whole build: solid plasterboard, sealed gaps, and doors that close properly all play a part. We'll talk you through what will make the most difference for your rooms.
Like wall batts, acoustic batts go in while the frame is open, so the best time is during a build or renovation.

Acoustic insulation: common questions
Is acoustic insulation the same as soundproofing?+
Not quite. Acoustic batts reduce noise travelling through walls and floors, often by a lot, but completely soundproofing a room also needs special plasterboard, sealing and sometimes separate wall frames.
Can you add acoustic insulation to an existing wall?+
The batts need the wall cavity open, so it's usually done when the plaster is coming off for a renovation. Ceilings can sometimes be done from the roof space.
Does acoustic insulation also keep heat in?+
Yes, acoustic batts also have a thermal R-value, so they help with temperature as well as noise.
