Ceiling insulation in Melbourne
Your roof space is where a home gains the most heat on a hot day and loses the most on a cold night. We supply and install ceiling batts in homes across Melbourne, from single-storey houses in the west to two-storey homes in the east.
Why insulate the ceiling first
Heat rises, so in winter warm air collects against the ceiling and escapes through the roof if nothing stops it. In summer the roof space can get far hotter than outside, and that heat radiates down into your rooms.
Of all the places you can insulate, the ceiling usually makes the biggest difference for the money, which is why it's the first job we recommend in most existing homes.
What we install
We fit batts snugly between the ceiling joists with no gaps, because even small gaps let a surprising amount of heat through. Where you already have some insulation that's still in good shape, we can top it up rather than start again.
The right R-value depends on your home and, for new work, on what your building plans or energy report specify. Melbourne ceilings commonly use R3.5 to R6.0. We'll recommend a product when we quote.
Done safely
We keep insulation clear of downlights, transformers, exhaust fans and flues unless the fittings are rated to be covered, so nothing overheats. If a light fitting needs changing to allow full coverage, we'll tell you before we start.
Old roof spaces can hide damaged wiring or materials that need a specialist. If we see anything like that, we stop and talk to you first.

How long does ceiling insulation take to install?+
Many single-storey homes are finished in a day. Larger or two-storey homes, or jobs that need old insulation removed first, can take longer. We'll give you a time frame with the quote.
Do I need to be home?+
Someone needs to let us in and show us the manhole. After that you don't need to stay, but we'll walk you through what we did when we finish.
Can you insulate over my old insulation?+
If it's still dry, clean and in reasonable shape, we can often top it up. If it's flattened, damp, or contaminated by pests, it's better to remove it first. See insulation removal.
Will insulation make my downlights unsafe?+
Not when it's installed properly. We leave the required clearance around downlights and other fittings unless they're rated to be covered.
