Insulation removal and replacement in Melbourne
Insulation doesn't last forever. Batts get flattened, damp, or fouled by rats and possums, and once that happens they stop working. We remove old insulation from the roof space and replace it with new product.
Signs your insulation needs replacing
Batts that are thin and flattened, patchy coverage with gaps between them, water stains from old roof leaks, droppings or nesting from rats, mice or possums, or a home that's hard to heat even though the roof is insulated.
If you're not sure, send us a few photos of the roof space and we'll tell you whether it needs replacing or just topping up.
How we do it
We bag the old insulation in the roof space and carry it out through the manhole, keeping the mess in the roof rather than in your rooms. Then we install new batts to the R-value you choose.
Removing old insulation is also the right time to fix anything the roof space needs, like an electrician checking old wiring or a roofer fixing a leak, before the new batts go in.
Asbestos
Some older Victorian homes contain asbestos in the roof space. We don't remove asbestos. If we see anything that might contain it, we stop work, and you'll need a licensed asbestos assessor before we continue.

Insulation removal & replacement: common questions
Do I need to replace my insulation or just top it up?+
If the existing batts are dry, clean and reasonably thick, a top-up is often enough. If they're flattened, damp, or contaminated by pests, they should come out. Photos help us tell you which.
Will it make a mess inside?+
We bag the insulation in the roof space and carry the bags out, so most of the dust stays up there. We'll protect the floor under the manhole.
Do you remove asbestos?+
No. If we find anything that might contain asbestos, we stop work and you'll need a licensed asbestos assessor before we can continue.
